Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools, Hwange & Livingstone Safari
A unique southern African experience awaits you and your family. Spend 10 days on a luxury safari exploring three renowned national parks – Mana Pools, Hwange and Mosi-oa-Tunya – in two of Africa's most stunning countries: Zimbabwe and Zambia. Plus, every booking of this itinerary will include a contribution of two stationery packs that will be donated to the children at Maunga Primary School, as part of our Positive Impact initiative.
Track elephants and rhinos on foot. Get close to leopards, cheetahs, hippos, buffalo and plenty more wildlife on game drives. Enjoy a tranquil sunset cruise on the Zambezi River one day and an adrenaline-filled bungee jump off Victoria Falls Bridge the next. There's never a shortage of ways to discover Africa while on this extraordinary escape.
Ideal for multi-generational families, the itinerary provides something for everyone and ensures that you obtain a first-rate safari experience while exploring the two neighbouring countries. More mature family members can indulge in sundowners on the river, while the kids take on the Zambezi River currents on their kayaks. And once the sun has set, everyone can come together to enjoy a night drive or guided nature walk.
Being able to get out of the truck and walk in the bush to see a fresh lion kill up close was a highlight. Having our guide look after us from pick up to drop off and everything in between was awesome. I still miss Yona!
A 90-minute flight from Robert Gabriel Mugabe Airport in Harare to the Mana Pools airstrip places you in the middle of Mana Pools National Park. A short 30-minute drive from there delivers you to the first stop on your African safari: Nyamatusi Camp. Located near the winding Zambezi River that feeds the lush surroundings, Nyamatusi is a seasonal camp (open from April to November) that provides front-row seats to one of Africa's last remaining untouched frontiers.
Lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, hyenas and wildebeest are just some of the wildlife species that can be found wandering Mana Pools' complex ecosystem. With the camp's off season, animals are free from human contact for up to six months of the year. The untamed animal natures that arise from this make for surreal, raw encounters. Catch a glimpse of big game by signing up for guided walks, canoeing safaris and game drives. Or have fun with the tamer wildlife by fishing and birding. The elephant tracking that takes place throughout the park is an exceptional experience.
On day 4, it's back to Mana Pools main airstrip for the flight over to Manga Airstrip and the next stop on your itinerary.
Just six luxurious suites in Mana Pools
All rooms have air conditioning, private pools, outdoor showers and decks
Beautiful views of the passing Zambezi River
Walking, canoeing, boating and game drivesv
Solar powered with in-room charging facilities
Private wine cellar
Fully Inclusive Plus (All Meals, Selected Beverages, Selected Extras)

Both are great camps with Main having the luxury touch and lots of public space (plus a lovey plunge pool). Tented rooms at Main are large and very comfortable. Food, staff and service were all really great.
Game drives were excellent. Much more open scenery and a good amount of game, particularly elephants and lots of lions. We had the most wonderful experience of being stood in the middle of 100 plus elephants drinking our G&T's at sunset while they drank at the waterhole. Totally magical.
Flight transfers between camps were great. All very professional and all went as planned. The aircraft was a Cessna Caravan (12-seater) so very comfortable.
It's a 30-minute drive from Manga Airstrip to the award-winning, eco-friendly Somalisa Tented Camp, the second sojourn on your African safari.
Named Zimbabwe's leading tented safari camp in the 2019 World Travel Awards, Somalisa is situated near a watering hole frequented by wildlife wandering the plains. Keep an eye out for the elephants who are repeat visitors. Grab a chilled drink, take a seat on the deck and watch these gentle giants quench their thirst as the sun sinks below the horizon.
Explore the wonder that is Hwange National Park with guided nature walks, night drives, game drives, horse riding, birding and cultural village visits. Home to immense numbers of buffalo and elephants, and renowned for its lion, leopard and cheetah sightings, you're sure to get within throwing distance of the big names in game.
On day seven, bid farewell to Zimbabwe and travel to it's equally beautiful and astonishing neighbour Zambia. A 45-minute flight from Manga Airstrip to Victoria Falls Airport starts the final lap of your African safari adventure.
Set in the heart of Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park
Walking safaris and night drives in private concession
Popular waterhole and multiple viewing decks
Copper bathtubs and log-burning fireplaces in each suite
Airstrip for flights from Victoria Falls and the rest of Zimbabwe
Good bird watching and excellent game viewing
Fully Inclusive Plus (All Meals, Selected Beverages, Selected Extras)

Thorntree still offers exceptional service from a wonderful team, the trees have grown beautifully since I was last there for the opening to provide pools of shade and the riverfront views from the communal deck or your own suite provide a welcome respite after a busy safari, still one of my favourite lodges in Africa! We also spent a morning in Maunga Village, helping with the school feeding program and to paint the newly built ablutions & renovated classrooms which was such a privilege!
Welcome to Zambia! A 50-minute drive from Victoria Falls Airport takes you to one of the country's most extravagant and contemporary lodges: Thorntree River Lodge. Providing tranquil, picturesque views of the passing Zambezi River and situated less than 30-minutes from crowd-favourite Victoria Falls, there's no better place to bring your once-in-a-lifetime trip to a close.
There are numerous African safari experiences to be had during your stay in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Spend your days on game drives, taking guided nature walks, exploring the river by kayaking or fishing, tracking white rhinos by foot, or gaining insight into local customs when visiting the nearby Simonga Village. After a jam-packed day of activities, wind down with sundowners on Thorntree's private boat as the sun sets over the river. Then head back to camp and share your stories around the fire in the sunken boma (outdoor seating enclosure) or on the floating deck overlooking the river. And you can relax knowing your children are safe and sound learning about nature at the Ngwana Club.
You can't visit Mosi-oa-Tunya (meaning ‘The Smoke That Thunders') without getting up close to the park's namesake, Victoria Falls. Guided rainforest walks, bungee jumping off Victoria Falls Bridge and helicopter flips over the waterfall are just a few of the activities you can participate in.
Day 10 sees you depart Thorntree with a 20-minute transfer to Harry Mwanga Nkumbula Airport in Livingstone. You may be leaving Africa behind physically, but the memories and experiences forged on safari will ensure that it remains in your heart.
Excellent proximity to Zambian side Victoria Falls
Outdoor showers so you can truly immerse yourself in nature
Wonderful family of staff where every day is tailored to your needs
Sunset boat cruises, fishing and kayaking
Travel with a purpose and visit Maunga Village to see the positive impact made by Go2Africa and the African Bushcamps Foundation
Delicious 3 course al fresco meals paired with some of the best South African wines
Relax under the trees, in your private plunge pool or with a massage
Fully Inclusive Plus (All Meals, Selected Beverages, Selected Extras)
