With its legendary status as a classic safari destination, Kenya's Masai Mara beckons travellers from around the world. Experience the magic of this iconic wildlife haven on this 8-day trip beginning in Nairobi and venturing into the untamed wilderness of the Mara. The trip kicks off with an overnight in Nairobi. Add on a visit to some sights in Nairobi or simply enjoy the camp and pop out for a drive in Nairobi National Park, setting the stage for the extraordinary experiences to come.
From there, the thrill of the Great Migration awaits at Rekero Camp, nestled on the banks of the Talek River within the Masai Mara National Reserve. Here you are perfectly positioned to witness the spectacle of herds of wildebeest and zebra as they traverse the Mara’s plains, drawing predators in their wake. The drama of predator-prey interactions unfolds before your eyes, sometimes in front of camp, creating an exhilarating backdrop for your daily game drives.
Afterward, retreat to Naboisho Camp in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, where intimacy and authenticity intertwine. Traverse the pristine landscapes on game drives as well as guided walking safaris, absorbing the sights, sounds, and scents of the African bush.
After a thrilling Mara safari, you’ll be whisked away to the coast to UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home of the postcard-perfect Shela Beach, Lamu Island. Spend three nights at the beautiful Peponi Hotel and enjoy island bliss under the palm trees.
By choosing this extraordinary itinerary, you’ll not only witness the wonders of the Masai Mara but also contribute to vital conservation efforts and support local communities. An unforgettable journey that ticks all the boxes.
We went to the Four Points Sheraton to fly out. It was a good place to stay before leaving…great service!
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, make your way through customs and out through arrivals, where a driver will wait to greet you. and take you on a quick drive to the Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Airport Hotel. The best part? There's no long commute, so you'll be checked into your room and ready to enjoy a relaxing hot shower in no time.
It’s then up to you how to spend the rest of the day, depending on your time of arrival. If you feel you’d be up to heading out to explore, you can spend the afternoon visiting a few attractions in Nairobi such as the Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Museum and perhaps the bead market. If you aren’t in the mood to tour, kick back and relax at camp. Make use of the cosy lounge, take a refreshing dip in the pool and relax with a book on pool loungers as you recoup from the long flight in. Perhaps pop out on a game drive in the park to get a small taste of the safari experience coming up.

“This camp has a long standing history in the Masai Mara, and the Beaton family continues to be actively involved in the running of this camp. Their passion for wildlife and safaris can be felt right the way through this camp. Highly recommended for the discerning safari traveller.”
After breakfast at Four Points, a driver will meet you at reception for your road transfer to Wilson Airport, where you will board your flight to the Masai Mara. On arrival at Ol Kiombo Airstrip, a guide from Rekero Camp will be on hand to meet you. A short drive brings you to Rekero Camp, where you will spend the next three nights. Upon your arrival at the camp, take a moment to relax and settle into your tent and take in the surroundings. Enjoy a leisurely lunch on the lodge deck with views of the Talek River.
Set within the Masai Mara Game Reserve on the Talek River, Rekero's position is ideal to spot the wildlife, such as wildebeest and zebra, as they migrate on their annual journey through the Mara. The camp has been known to be surrounded by wildebeest, and with three regular river crossing points in the area, this is where you'll be experiencing the big-ticket bucket list Great Migration, and possibly river crossings (in season). Along with the herds of wildebeest and zebra, the herds attract thrilling predator action in the area, their presence adding a good dose of excitement to your daily game drives.
After lunch, spend some time enjoying the lodge facilities and take a moment to enjoy the ambiance at camp. A spread of tea, coffee and delectable pastries preludes the afternoon activities. Set out on the afternoon game drive to explore the Mara plains and experience the action of the migration herds up close when the herds are in the area. As golden hour approaches, your guide will find a scenic spot for sundowners before heading back to camp. Arrive back at the lodge to a roaring campfire where you can gather around before a delicious dinner under the stars.

Naboisho was magnificent. We were incredibly well looked after on game drives and back at the lodge. We saw some amazing things: a leopard with cubs on a kill and male lions on a kill stolen from lionesses from another pride.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast ahead of your transfer to the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. The drive allows time for game viewing along the way, and you should arrive at Naboisho Camp in the late morning. Situated in a private conservancy east of Kenya’s Masai Mara, Naboisho Camp is a stylishly authentic and intimate safari camp that was first established as a community initiative to preserve wildlife while supporting local communities. Soak in the views and settle into your spacious tent before enjoying lunch on the grass in front of the lodge lounge.
After lunch, there will be time for you to enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool, relax on sun loungers with a good book or head to the deck with a pair of binoculars as you keep an eye out for passing wildlife. By now you'll have settled into the safari routing and mid-afternoon will see you ready for your afternoon tea and craving the next game drive. As you're now based within a conservancy, the afternoon game drive can be extended into the evening after sunset to experience nocturnal wildlife activity, a full sky of stars and the fresh aromatic air as your guide uses a spotlight to track.
While morning game drives are still an option at Naboisho, there is also opportunity to use the cooler morning hours to head out on a guided walking safari. Being out in the bush on foot is a different experience from a game drive and allows you to experience the environment from a more intimate perspective. Other than safari activities, you can take an excursion to a local village to meet some members of the community.
